Tequepis Trail

Synopsis » Go Back

Santa Ynez Outdoors
Tequepis Trail, located across Highway 154 from Cachuma Lake, offers visitors a chance to enjoy spectacular views while getting a great workout climbing through a lush canyon that was once home to a Chumash village. The word Tequepis comes from the Chumash word "teqeq", the meaning of which is unknown, yet was the original name for the village once located in the canyon. After reaching the top of the trail you'll be treated to tremendous views of the Ocean and Islands on one side, with Cachuma Lake resting below on the other side. The panoramic views from the top are some of the best I've seen in the area. The top of Broadcast Peak gets visitors high above the valley in a central location above the lake, with views of the northern Santa Barbara coast and Gaviota competing for your attention to the south. The most difficult thing about the hike, other than finding your way to the trailhead, is deciding which view to enjoy from the top once you get there.
