Sweetwater Trail

Santa Ynez Outdoors
The Sweetwater Trail is a meandering trail that skirts along the shore of Cachuma Lake for two and half miles on its way to a vista point overlooking the Bradbury Dam. Considering my bias for more challenging adventures, I was pleasantly surprised by this beautiful and easy trail that winds in and out of several coves, over a number of drainages, and through a number of meadows and oak forests along the lake's shoreline. One of the best things about this trail is its ease and accessibility. And considering its proximity to Highway 154, it offers a surprising sense of isolation as the lake dominates the view from every vantage point. For bird watchers, this is one of the best places my untrained eyes have seen during my time in the valley.
