De La Guerra Springs

Santa Ynez Outdoors

Far up Happy Canyon Road on the periphery of Los Padres National Forest is an old and seldom visited spring known as De La Guerra. No longer listed on Forest Service maps, this is a gem of a location hidden just half a mile off the road. An old fire road leads to the spring through an expansive meadow that has beautiful wildflower blossoms in the spring and early summer. These days the old road is a combination of single-track trail and double-track road, and functions perfectly as a pathway to the spring while cutting through the meadow. This is among the best and more secluded valley locations for an afternoon picnic or scenic sunset. Although the access road is no longer maintained regularly by the Forest Service, it's more than adequate for the trip, and the destination remains as a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered.
