White Rock Trail

Santa Ynez Outdoors
One of the most accessible and enjoyable trails on Figueroa Mountain is the White Rock Trail, which can be enjoyed by bicycle, on foot as a beautiful hike, or on horseback. The trailhead is located near the top of Figueroa Mountain, which remarkably lies only sixteen miles from Mattie's Tavern in downtown Los Olivos, yet feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the increasingly sideways valley. From the summit, visitors have access to miles of backcountry wilderness that can provide a sense of isolation similar to that found in the most remote areas of the Sierra Nevadas. This is especially amazing considering its proximity to Santa Barbara and the surrounding cities. Another of the fascinating aspects of Figueroa is how the conditions on the mountain are always different from those in the valley. Mild temperatures during the summer can be scorching hot on Figueroa, while cold and rainy days in the valley can mean snow on the summit. The natural beauty of the mountain and the surrounding Los Padres National Forest never ceases to amaze me.
