Santa Ynez Outdoors

Knapp's Castle is the local name for the roughly eighty-five-year-old ruins of what was once a sprawling estate belonging to George Knapp. Knapp built the massive compound after he purchased the mountain property in 1916. As a day trip, a visit to Knapp's Castle is one of the most beautiful and accessible landmark destinations in the valley. The ruins can be accessed via several routes, making it a great location to visit any time of year for a picnic, to watch the sunset, or as a halfway point during a hike or mountain bike trip.
